About Desert Pines - "A Taste of The Carolinas"
The Course
When you come to Vegas you want to experience some things that you usually don’t do back home. Unless you are from the Carolinas, playing golf at the Desert Pines Golf Club is one of those experiences.
You will know Desert Pines is for golfers when you first enter the clubhouse through the front double doors. Take a moment and view the display of high quality framed photos of legends of the game from the 30’s and 40’. Walters Hagen and Francis Quimet (1934) are joined there by Champion Claude Harmon at the 1948 Masters on Augusta National’s #13, pant legs rolled up and hitting out of wet marsh area. There is Bobby Jones smoking a cigar and dapper Gene Sarazan sitting on the grass as a spectator. Desert Pines was built for, and is run by, people who love and respect this great game.
Opening in February of 1997, the course underwent extensive renovation in the summer of 2007. All 18 greens were completely rebuilt and topped with new bent grass putting surfaces that provide a TOUR quality aspect to the round with speeds planned to roll around a 10. Aesthetic and ecological enhancements were also made.
This is a fun course playing to 6,810 yards from the tips. It has a Slope/Rating of 70.4/122 and offers three sets of tees and a par of 71. Generous mounding separates the fairways and can often result in lucky breaks as a hastily stuck ball can bounce back into the fairway.
Plenty of bunkers, water and some narrow fairway stretches are great equalizers to provide a fair challenge to both long ball hitters and those with a good short game. This is a course that rewards good course management skills and provides players of all abilities a fun and enjoyable experience ... one in which you may well use every club in your bag.
The greens are challenging and are reflective of the “Dye-abolical” contouring for which Dye-designs are renown. There are even railroad tie bunkers, tricky undulation and plenty of breaks to keep your putting eye sharp. For a hole-by-hole tour of Desert Pines click here.
To add a little gaming excitement to the round, Desert Pines offers a “Beat The Pro” challenge for all golfers who wish to test their skill against course personnel on a Par 3 “closest to the hole” contest for merchandise credit in the golf shop.
On-course food and beverage service is available.
